A flow line in Papua New Guinea sustained significant structural damage after a fallen tree caused a severe 28% dent, compromising the integrity of the asset. Replacing the pipeline section would have increased downtime, costs and logistical challenges due to the remote operating location. The client required an engineered pipeline dent repair solution that restored structural strength while allowing continued safe operation
Our Solution
PipeServ designed and installed an Engineered Carbon Fibre Composite Wrap to permanently reinforce the damaged section. The engineered repair restored the pipeline to a calculated failure pressure of 86.9 MPa, with a maximum allowable operating pressure of 65 MPa, while providing a 20-year design life. The carbon fibre composite wrap delivered a code-compliant pipeline dent repair without the need for hot work or pipe replacement
Results
The engineered carbon fibre composite repair restored the structural integrity of the damaged flow line while avoiding costly pipeline replacement. The client achieved a long-term pipeline dent repair solution with minimal operational disruption and improved asset reliability. The engineered design provided confidence in ongoing operation with a 20-year service life and pressure capacity well above operating requirements
